Center of Gravity Lab
Students investigated center of gravity by determining where their center of
gravity is and comparing their data with the rest of the class and with the
opposite gender. This was accomplished by holding a push up position on two
scales, then using simple mathematics to locate their center of gravity as a
percentage of their total body height. Students then set about explaining the
differences between the genders and why females can pick up chairs when their
heads rest against a wall and tip over a cup from the hunker down position.

Spectroscopy Lab
In this lab students identified the spectra (colors of light that correspond
to different wavelengths) given off by different elements. This information is
useful to astronomers who wish to study distant stars and solar systems yet have
no way of reaching them. The light each star or solar system gives off indicates
the elements present as each element has a characteristic
"fingerprint", or spectra of light that only it emits when exposed to
high temperatures. Click on button at left to view photos of students.
